If you are living in Copenhagen like me or you are visiting and you want to find a calisthenics park, you are at the right place. I will show you 5 calisthenics parks which are ranked from worst to best according to my own preference. This does not mean that you will like them, so take all of this information and opinions with a grain of salt.
Ranking criteria
In order to provide descriptive information and explain why one park is better or worse than another, I will base these assessments on the following criteria:
- The surroundings
- Equipment
- Quality
- Cleanliness
Amager beach calisthetics park
This calisthenics park is located in Amager Strand Park, which is a pretty popular place, especially in summer. It has all the basic equipment like bars, a rope, and a squat machine that can also be used as a shoulder press.
This park gets a 6/10 rating, and the reason for that is the following:
- The dip bar is unfortunately too wide, making it difficult to do proper dips.
- The ground is grass and sand, which is not very solid and is a no-go for me. If you are doing pushups, it’s better if the ground is solid.
- As this is a popular place during summer, especially on weekends, people with kids will be nearby. This can get really annoying as the kids often come and start climbing on the ropes and other equipment. It can be frustrating if you are looking for a focused and peaceful workout.
- The bars, in general, have bad quality for grip; some bars are made out of wood, and other metal bars are very thin.
Aside from these issues, it’s perfect. It’s right next to the sea, and the wind and the sound of the waves make it very relaxing in case you forget your headphones for your workout. 🏖️
Orestad park
This calisthenics park is located in the southern part of Copenhagen called Amager. The whole area is relatively new, around 10 years old, so the park naturally fits with its aesthetic. It lies between residential buildings and next to a play hall. The address is Ørestads Blvd. 49T, 2300 København.
I give this park a rating of 7/10, and the reasons are the following:
- The park has new, clean bars. The grip on these bars is much better than the ones at Amager Beach, which I mentioned above.
- The variation of dip bars is also great; there is a grip width that fits most people.
- As it is between residential buildings where families live, it can often be interrupted by children.
- There are also a couple of stone-like structures and small slides that kids can use, so parents often bring them there.
- The whole vibe around the park is urban. There is a metro that runs above, and there are a couple of shops where you can buy water or whatever you might need after a good workout session.
Workout park in Valby
This is my favorite, and it’s the one I use the most. It’s located in Fitness Trail – Copenhagen – Vandkulturhus next to a swimming hall, a bit further away from residential buildings, which is great in my opinion. I rate this 9/10, and the reasons are:
- Sometimes it can get crowded, but if you go either early in the morning or right after work time, which is around 4-5 PM, it’s quiet, and there are no people. In other words, peace.
- As it is far away from houses and buildings, not a lot of people come besides football players and swimmers, who go about their business. You can tell by now that I really like to work out with as few people as possible.
- The bar quality is great, and the width of the grip also fits me. There are some other bars that are thicker in case you need them.
- There is movable equipment that allows you to do ‘cable fly-like exercises.’
- The swimming hall is right next to this place, and you can go inside and get water from the tap if you need it. Super convenient.
- And again, peaceful.
Frederiksberg park
I have been here only once, but it has by far the best quality of bars and equipment. Also, the way it’s structured is top quality. Located in Copenhagen Business School – Kilen, it’s close to the university, which brings a lot of people. I give it 7/10, and the reasons are:
- A huge number of people at any time of the day.
- Again, parents with kids come and interrupt your workouts, which isn’t great.
- Overall quality of the park is top-notch.
- You can do all kinds of variations for pushups and dips due to the variety of the bars.
Konditaget Lüders area in Nordhavn
By far the worst park I have ever been to. The only reason I am writing about it is the area. The view is stunning; it’s located on top of a parking building where you can see the seaside and the inner city. Otherwise, if you are looking for a good workout, go somewhere else. It’s located in Konditaget Lüders Nordhavn, and I give it 2/10. The reasons are:
- No dip bars
- No benches
- You only have a circular area with bars on it, but if you want to do muscle-ups, not all of the bar spots are good for that as they have a bar on top, so you don’t have space for that exercise.
- A lot of people because of the nice view.
