Introducation

Copenhagen has a rich bicycle culture. Every day, thousands—if not tens of thousands—of people use bikes to commute. As a city, Copenhagen offers excellent infrastructure for cyclists, especially when it comes to roads. It’s very easy to cycle here, but it can sometimes be challenging due to the high number of riders. Locals can occasionally get frustrated with tourists and the way they ride, especially during rush hour.

One important part of cycling in Copenhagen is making sure your tires are properly inflated. That’s what this article is about—Copenhagen bicycle pumps. The city offers free public air pumps for bicycles that anyone can use.

Locations of air pumps

Unfortunately, there’s no official website or public list where you can find all the current air pump locations. However, based on personal experience and local tips, here are a few reliable places where you might find a free Copenhagen bicycle pump:

DSB Train stations

The Danish transportation company DSB has a page showing which train stations have bicycle pumps. Usually, these pumps are located outside the station, near the bike parking areas. They’re convenient if you’re commuting or transferring between neighborhoods.

Lidl supermarket

Many Lidl stores in Copenhagen have a bicycle air pump installed outside. One caveat is that they don’t always work. So even if you know where your nearest Lidl is, there’s no guarantee the pump will be functional.

Bicykle repair shops

Most bike repair shops in Copenhagen keep a pump outside for public use. This is great—except on Sundays. Many shops are closed then, which can be frustrating. I’ve personally been in this situation: I needed air on a Sunday and couldn’t find an open shop.

Gas stations

Gas stations like Shell and Circle K sometimes offer air pumps for bicycles. However, as with Lidl, it’s not guaranteed that every location will have one or that it’ll be working.

Mobile app Erforus

After facing these challenges myself, I created an iOS app called Erforus. It helps fellow cyclists find public bicycle pumps in Copenhagen quickly and easily. The app is completely free to use and currently available on iOS. I’m working on launching it on the Google Play Store as well.

The app is designed as a community effort. If you know of a public bicycle pump location in Copenhagen that isn’t listed, you can send an email to beniagic@gmail.com. We’ll verify it and add it to the app. Together, we can build a reliable, user-generated map of Copenhagen bicycle pumps for everyone to benefit from.

I hope this was helpful to anyone searching for—or in need of—a bicycle air pump in Copenhagen. If you have information about a public air pump location, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Happy cycling!
